How To Wear Sandals in the Middle of the Winter
January 17, 2018
I've always loved colours. Living life without colours seems impossible to me, it feels sad and somehow I feel having no colours in one's outfits is lacking personality. Ok, not personality, I am not trying to be rude with those who keep it all black, but even from a psychological point of view, wearing colours shows confidence and it can also boost your mood.
Just like dark colours are perceived as more formal, dominant and authoritative, light colours make the wearer appear more friendly and approachable. It's believed that some bright colours convey confidence and energy, while muted colours are conservative and less threatening. In the same time, the higher the contrast between the colours you're wearing (think black and white now), the more powerful the image you create will be. On the other hand, the lower the degree of contrast such as a light grey and light pink can make you appear more approachable and friendly. Did you know all this? Comes in pretty handy when creating your outfits, depending on the occasion you're dressing for or the mood you're in. Not in the mood for chit-chat? Go for darker colours. In the mood for feeling good and having fun? Go for light, warm colours with low contrast. It's that easy.
And even for those of you who don't give a damn about what they're wearing, this thing will still work, wether you accept it or not so think twice.
I am a huge fan of strong colours in vibrant, lively shades but for a while now I felt the need to go for earthy tones. Not necessarily earthy, but more muted; neutrals, pastels, light warm colours, I love them all. I am not sure how long this will last, because to be honest I am moody, so my taste in colours changes as often as the weather.
Last Sunday, I went for a long walk in Richmond with my hubby and I entered all the charity shops that we've encountered. What a bliss! I love that element of surprise, when you never know what you're going to find, but you always find something amazing that makes your day. One of the items I bought was this vintage wool coat, made from pure wool. I paid £4 for it and I must admit it's one of the warmest coats I've ever had. It's double breasted (my fav type), has oversized shoulders, and the colour is to die for! Love the houndstooth pattern in buttery white and camel, it goes perfect with my new jumper dress from METISU in a gorgeous earthy blush shade and a super soft fabric. I wore this outfit yesterday, for a coffee out with my husband in one of our favourite French places, Jade Boulangerie, which is near our home. I know it's cold, but hey, I had to wear those sandals. Try layering just like I did (tights + socks) and wear your fav summer shoes in the middle of the winter. You won't freeze, I promise.
