Mid-spring is all about getting ready for summer, both physically and mentally...although the weather doesn't really reflect mid-spring on a daily basis yet, I prefer to focus on the warm and sunny days, choosing bright colours to make my days better.

I wasn't a big fan of yellow, until one of two years back, when I started loving it more and more. One of the reasons I am actually afraid of wearing yellow come spring and summer is the amount of insects which comes with it. You know how they're all attracted to yellow especially...and I must admit I'm not attracted to ANY kind of insects, on the contrary...therefore my mind says: "avooooooid during hot summer days". But for spring, it's simply perfect.

Yellow plus black equals love, and so does magenta in this whole equation. How To Nail Your Tropical Print Outfit

One of the major trends for SS17 it's the tropical print. It comes in a huge variety of colours and designs and you can wear it on everything from shoes to hats - shorts, dresses, mini skirts, tops, bags...you name it! Whether you're a boy or a girl, it doesn't matter. You know why? Because there are endless choices both for him and for her.

For this weekend, I went for a tropical deux-pieces in velvet. It's looks sophisticated and feels amazingly comfortable so that's what I'm after! Of course you can wear these two pieces separately, but I chose to wear them together because I love the idea of an "unconventional casual suit". Paired with my good old Gucci horsebit slingbacks and the most wanted t-shirt of 2017, I am prepared for any occasion from a surprise pizza to an evening out with friends.

The accessories I went for - yellow sunglasses (my new obsession, they just make the world look sunny, warm and bright even when it isn't) and a 3in1 bag, big enough to fit all my essentials and super-versatile too - it also features a long gold chain but for this outfit I preferred to wear it as a handbag - the wooden handle is gorgeous - and actually, you can choose which shape or colour you want to wear as they are all detachable. Pretty amazing, right?

How to wear the tropical print?

However you want! Choose one in bright colours for a laid-back, relaxed look or go for a darker one for a look that will take you from day to night this summer.

How to accessorise it?

Pick one or maximum 3 colours that are already in the print of your choice and match the rest of you accessories to it - in this look I went for black and gold shoes and for a really colourful bag - the reason why it looks so good? You can find all the colours from the bag in my deux-pieces. So it's not too much, it just completes the look. Got the idea? Pick a colour and make sure to find the same shade of that colour in the print - that way you can't go wrong and you will definitely not look like a clown.

That Feeling

Sometimes a simple piece of clothing can bring us such strong emotions: perhaps it evokes a sweet memory from the past, teleports us back to our childhood or simply takes us to a magical dream state.

The other day I saw a pair of golden braided sandals in Zara and it instantly made me think of my mom and the way she used to wear hers in the 90's. I remembered I love those sandals so much that I kept wearing them in our house as a little child and I wore them until my mom couldn't wear them any longer. Of course they were many sizes too big! Then lots of memories started coming back: the place we were living back then, the endless summer days when the breeze made our curtains dance to its song, the blue carpet that was my playground, the exotic palm tree and ocean wallpaper that would cover the wall, the smell of oranges in the morning, my mother's eyeshadow palette filled with vivid colours, my gipsy friends that would come to my birthday parties and danced until their feet hurt.

When I saw this dress, the same memories hit me and I said to myself I got to have it no matter what! All my fun, warm, carefree memories are trapped inside this piece of clothing. Its print actually reminds me of my grandma and my great grandmother and of the clothes they used to wear inside home when I was little. So do the precious buttons - my grandma used to keep gorgeous buttons inside a metallic jar painted with pale pink roses in our kitchen. Oh how I loved to count them! Then the summer holidays, the red bike I used to have back in the days and ultimately, our honeymoon spent in the French Riviera.

My advice? Whenever you find a piece of clothing, an accessory, a piece of jewellery which actually makes you feel something, just go for it. Wear it as much as you please and make sure to keep it close to your heart.
