The Silk Dress

April 11, 2017

I'm gonna be short: invest in a silk dress and wear it proudly. It's the perfect item for summer, not just for this one but for more summers to come. Silk is just timeless. Add some ruffles and an exotic print and all eyes will be on you.

Because the weather is not hot yet, I decided to wear this gorgeous dress from VIPme with a kimono-inspired coat, oversized earrings, a fun pair of mules (there's that bit of turquoise on everything and I love how is looking) and a bag in a neutral colour. I adore its print - it's so colourful, happy, positive! It's one of those dresses that can make you smile and fill you with positive vibes. Love its ruffles and the colours...oh well, they're just out of this world.

By the way, did you know silk is commonly considered to be the queen of all fabrics?

Interesting facts about silk

  • The shimmering appearance for which silk is prized comes from the fiber’s triangular prism-like structure which allows silk cloth to refract incoming light at different angles
  • Silk culture has been practiced for at least 5000 years in China
  • A highly versatile fabric, silk has proven to be ideal for a variety of uses – from formal wear to sleepwear, from parachutes to rugs, from medical sutures to prosthetic arteries
  • Silk has a miniscule percentage of the global textile fiber market – less than 0.2%. Yet the actual trading value of silk and silk products is in many billions of dollars since the unit price for raw silk is roughly twenty times that of raw cotton
  • Strong as steel in tensile strength, silk is the strongest natural fiber known to man
